For decades to come people will ask of each other, where were you? I am sitting with Arnold Burns, the chairman of the boys and girls club of America, talking about the needs of youth. I have known this former deputy attorney general of the United States for twenty-five years, and because I am on the board of advisers. We happened to run into each other the way New Yorkers often meet, in an unlikely place. Jimmy Boyle is, without a doubt, the most beloved man within the New York fire department family.…

An Essay on Truthfulness, Deceit, and the Growth and Care of Erotic Love by Clancy Martin provides an interesting perspective on love, marriage, and happiness. Clancy Martin argues that a large majority of people cannot comprehend true love because of self-deception and deception to their significant other. There is a stigma that true love depends on complete and utter honesty and that is simply not true. Love is many things like eroticism, deceitfulness, and satisfaction but it is not complete honesty. He discusses how we as humans commonly lie and we are taught deception at a young age and this in turn carries into our adulthood.…

I observed him carefully as he walked to the door. I knew that time was running out but suppressed the urge to check my watch. I took a deep breath and started counting in reverse under my breath. “Ten, nine, eight, seven…” I didn’t even finish counting when he turned the handle. I watched as the whole building exploded into smithereens, an explosion that resonated even 5 miles away.…

Deception in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” The poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot, was one of Eliot’s first major poems that gave him national recognition. It is a satirical poem about the “difficult” task of talking to women. It follows the life and thoughts of the main character J. Alfred Prufrock as he ironically attends a party of high stature in a seemingly shallow location within a city comparable to London.…

a subtle reference was made to the state of Vincent’s heart. If this scenario ever played out, then a Libertarian philosophy of Vincent’s actions to lie and deceive do not fit. During the film, Vincent’s lies and deceit were never represented as anything other than a valid means to overcome the injustice of discrimination based on being a God-child and having an inferior genome to those members of society who had been genetically improved. The ethics of committing fraud and lying your way to the top were not addressed except briefly at the end of the film when Vincent’s brother has realized the truth and confronts him and tells him he is in a lot of trouble for committing fraud.…
