Around the corner from Muhammad Mosque #75, Reporter, Lamont Smith interviewed Alex Porter (Alex X). Alex is a 77-year-old man involved in the Nation of Islam, he was born on August 13, 1938, in Mississippi. He is also an Associate of Legal Shield, a business for people who are looking for legal defense attorneys. The interview took place at the Porter Resident on February 20, 2016, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Lamont and Alex relationship is 6 months old; they met at Muhammad Mosque #75.
Sound Recording: In the 1940’s – 1950’s, Alex uses to listen Louis Jordan, Muddy Waters, Bb King, Ray Charles, and Little Richard. His favorite artist is Johnny Hooker, his favorite song by him and possibly period is Natural Born Lover. In his house, when he was younger, he had a turntable. It was sort of like what DJ’s used in the 1980’s-present day; just not high tec. All his music was bought for one dollar in a little record store in Jackson, Mississippi. There was a magazine back them call Popular Jive or Jazz, and Ebony put it out for it for a long time. Alex said “that magazine allowed everyone to know and learn about the artist”.

X like in a certain movie in the 60s. He didn’t care to much for the “Silent Films”, but he did see maybe two of them. His experience when going to the early movie theaters he saw that there weren’t many blacks in the movies, and most of the movies were about World War II. The difference from the 1960’s was that the movies did have ratings on them so, Alex and the rest of the movie goers didn’t know what was suitable for children.
