The PAC theater was filled with tears and laughter as the founder of Because I said I Alex Sheen took the stage to tell his story and keep his promise.
According to the Because I said I would website: “Because I said I would is a social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. We are changing lives through volunteerism in local chapters, character education programming in schools and awareness campaigns with global reach. Our mission is to end suffering, establish peace and build happiness.”
Because I said I would was founded after Sheen’s father died of cancer and he realized how far someone's word, how far a promise can go.

“Simply write a promise on the card and use it as a symbol of your honor. I offered to send 10 promise cards to anyone anywhere in the world at no cost to them. This would set off a chain of events to the scope of which I may never understand.”
Since that day Sheen toured around the country and offered his story to anyone who would listen, he even appeared multiple times on Ted-Talks. However, Sheen’s speech at Northwest was even more impactful as college speeches were at of the norm for Sheen.
“I thought the event was really good...,” Senior Marissa Herring said. “When I came here and heard his stories it was very moving not only because he quit his job to go into non-profit but because you can tell he really believes in what he is doing. Sheen would go on to provide multiple sources of wisdom to the audience as he told his story of how his kept promise turned into a non-profit business.
“When it seems everything is against you, just try to focus on the small stuff and look at all those as victories,” Sheen
