When Alex was fourteen she played for a league soccer team. The team was having trouble with coaching. So Alex reached out to Mia Hamm, a professional soccer player, and asked her to personally coach her team. Mia responded saying she would be delighted to come and coach her team. Mia Hamm was actually Alex’s childhood idol. Shortly, after she turned sixteen she went to Diamond Bar High School. After high school she went to the University of California at Berkely By this time Alex was on the national team.Alex had said that she was very happy about winning her first Olympic gold medal in 2012.
