No major league ballplayer is associated with the term “pine tar” more than Kansas City Royals Hall of Famer George Brett. The pine tar incident is still one of the most bizarre umpiring decisions in recent history. What Happened in the Pine Tar Game With two outs in the top of the 9th inning and The Royals down a run to the Yankees, George Brett stepped up to the plate with a man on first base. Yankees skipper Billy Martin called on his closer, Goose Gossage, to make the final out in the game.…
Perham softball head coach Tyler Doll knew his team would need to score a lot of runs if it wanted to beat the Park Rapids Area Panthers on April 4 at Arvig Park. However, Panther pitcher Brooke Jerger made sure that didn’t happen when she shut down the Yellowjackets, helping the Panthers to an 11-1 season opening win. Jerger scattered four hits while allowing one run. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter. She started strong, striking out five of the six batters she faced to start the game.…
This year will be a first for the Coastal Hurricanes baseball program, according to head coach Jason Rockwell. “We have never played in a post-season game before,” said Rockwell. This year it becomes a reality as the Hurricanes will travel to Charleston, South Carolina to play in the South Carolina Homeschool Tournament. Four teams are in the tournament, Charleston, Columbia, Coastal and Upstate Eagles from Spartanburg.…
The Black Sox Scandal Introduction The White Sox get bribed into throwing The World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in 1919. The White Sox were made up of two different groups of players and together they formed the best baseball team to ever play. Black Sox…
I. The year was 1918. Woodrow Wilson was president, World War 1 was ending, the Spanish flu became a pandemic, and the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. The last event would not occur for another 86 years until 2004 when the Boston Red Sox emerged victorious. II.…
Personal Narrative I’m going to be writing about the Kanas City Royals postseason run. Some of the places my story will take place in Kansas City, Los Angeles, & San Francisco. So the reason I’m writing this is because I love the Royals. This meant so much to me because it was the first time in 29 years since the Royals have been in a playoff game.…
The Texas Rangers (2-1) fall to the Toronto Blue Jays (1-2) by a final score of 5-1 in Arlington Texas. The Rangers bats were silenced for most of the night, and the Blue Jays looked like a team that didn’t want their season to end tonight. Martin Perez (0-1 7.20 ERA) took the loss for the Rangers, while Marco Estrada (1-0 1.42 ERA) got the win for the visiting Blue Jays. Martin Perez got off to a magnificent start for the Rangers, retiring the first six hitters that he faced. Both pitchers were getting after it, and it looked like it was going to be a pitchers duel.…
1. When a biologist faculty member as Wilson’s University “waived his hand dismissively,” what did is gesture signify? When the Biologist “waived his hand dismissively,” at Wilson, I believe that this was a way of “looking down” on Wilson’s “soft” science area of practice. Why did Wilson refer to himself as a “Little Leaguer”?…
Like Stroman, Bautista provided a calm, measured response that undermines Gossage’s argument. Both rejected the idea that players should conform to pre-set notions of how to behave on the field. “It’s kind of hard to just go about everything, especially exciting things, and just sit there with a poker face like nothing’s happening,” Bautista said Thursday. “I don’t even think that’s in human nature.” Stroman was scheduled to pitch four innings Friday, but he was more efficient than expected, so the Blue Jays sent him out for the fifth.…
Yankees vs Royals Game Last summer I went to a Yankees vs Royals baseball game at kauffman stadium. Half of my family and I are huge Yankees fans, but the other have of them are Royals fans. So we all decided to pack up and head to the big game. Half of us had our Yankees hats, shirts, and jerseys on.…
The first game had Eddie Cicotte as the starting pitcher, which is the player that throws the ball to the people who are batting, for the Chicago White Sox. It seemed like the Sox would win that day because, as previously mention, Eddie Cicotte had won 29 games prior to the playoffs. However, the Reds ended up winning the first game of the series with a score of 9 to 1. Everyone was shocked about how badly the White Sox had played that day. Cicotte’s level of play was not what it usually was.…
SunTrust Park is the brand new stadium that the Atlanta Braves play their home games at. It first opened its doors on March 31st, 2017. Although the Braves did not play their first home game until April 14th Before SunTrust, the Braves played at Turner field, which opened on March 29th, 1997. Being only 20 years old, it was one of the youngest stadiums to be rebuilt, but it was deteriorating quickly. It also played host to a few college football games throughout the years,…
Baseball has to be one of America’s best pastimes. There are only a hand full of sports that have originated in America, and with that said, baseball has to be one of the most beloved sports we have in today’s time. Baseball has affected young men, men of color, even women and along the way started some club and team rivals. There has been such a love for the sport since it came about. This sport really gives room for competition, family oriented events, and everything in between.…
What I was looking forward to doing my senior year, was leading my team as a senior to the best we could be. I was working harder than I ever had all winter long leading up to this. I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…
In my life, nothing has taught me more about life than the game of baseball. When you play a game that is about winning and losing since early childhood, you will be able to handle the winning and losing of life a lot easier. Losing always make players dream of what it would be like to win a championship and be the best at there game. I experienced the ups and down’s of this game all to well, and wouldn’t be that person I am today without it.…
