In Angela's Ashes the reoccurring theme of alcoholism plays an important role on the families financial status . Due to Franks father's terrible habit the family is forced to go hungry or forced to beg as the wages from work is usually spent on pints of beer. Hung over the night before , Malachy over sleeps and loses his job " if he gets a job at the Limerick cement company or Rank's four mills he loses it the third week he loses it because he goes to pubs on the third Friday of the job , drinks all his wages and misses the half day of work on Saturday morning."(145). Other situations where we see Malachy being in complete denial is when he moves to England to work and fails to send money to limerick.
