Alcohol is a socially accepted drink, but too often people take it too far. Although alcoholism isn 't a disease, it can certainly cause many severe health problems. Alcohol is considered to be a gateway drug, and can lead to an addiction. the definition of a gateway drug is a habit-forming drug that, while not itself addictive, may lead to the use of other addictive drugs. A recent study shows the first drug used amount 12th graders consist of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana. The results had alcohol in the lead, with 54% of students using alcohol before hard drugs. The reason why alcohol is so commonly consumed is because it has the easiest availability. Most cases of gout are hereditary, but alcohol plays a big role in the formation of the crystals. Alcohol increases the body 's ur icon acid level and can cause the gout to show. Alcohol also seems to aggravate existing cases of gout and makes them increasingly worse. Alcohol can cause high blood pressure by disturbing the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system controls the constriction and dilation of blood vessels in response to stress, temperature, exertion, etc. over time, high blood pressure can become chronic. High blood pressure can lead to many other health issues. Those problems include kidney disease, heart disease, and stroke. The suppressing of the immune system caused by heavy drinking provides a toehold for infections. The infections lead to tuberculosis, pneumonia, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Chronic pancreatitis interferes with the digestive process. The interference can cause severe abdominal pain and persistent diarrhea. Some cases of chronic pancreatitis are triggered by gallstones. Gallstones are unlikely because 60% of cases stem from alcohol consumption. alcoholics come with many behavior changes within themselves. A common behavior is giving up important social gatherings, occupations, recreational activities. Some people become aggressive and angry and become violent. The one thing about alcohol is that it affects every one differently. The behaviors can affect the families of alcoholics but separation. These are key reasons about people becoming depressed. In 2013, 86.8% of people at the age of 18 or older, at some point of their life consumed alcohol. 70.7% reported that they drank in the past year. 56.4% were said to have a drink in the past month. 16.6 million adults had an AUD in 2013. It is estimated that 697,000 adolescents ages 12-17 had an AUD in 2013. 73,000 of those kids received treatment for an alcohol problem. Nearly 88,000 people died from alcohol
