Alcohol Use And Traffic In Cambodia Case Study

The main objective of this study is to reduce risks of alcohol use and drink-driving among Cambodia university students so as to ensure a safety environment for road users as well as to improve the well-being and quality of life of the people. Some 1700 university students and 100 experts will be randomly selected from 15 universities in Cambodia by using a survey questionnaire. The data will be analyzed in IBM SPSS v.20 and in partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) by using Smart PLS 3.0 software in order to examine the current state of alcohol use and driving behaviors and to predict the behavioral intention to the use of alcohol and driving after drinking among respondents. The results of the study will contribute significantly to the literature on alcohol and drink-driving behaviors as well as it has important implications for alcohol management and road crash prevention for Cambodia. Particularly, this study will be a very first investigation on university students in order to provide an initiative concept and direction for educators, policy makers, and development partners to reduce alcohol consumption as well as to enhance a better-off environment for all road users in this country.

The past year drinking varied from 82.3% of first-year students to 88.9% of fourth-year students and from 83.5% among students living off campus with family to 88.1% among students living off campus without family(6).
