Today the drivers of America are not as distracted as they used to be in the 70’s. Alcohol is still the leading cause of vehicle accidents in The United States. Speeding is the second leading cause of all traffic accidents. Drivers do not pay attention to their surroundings or in other words, they have no situational awareness of things around them. Operating a vehicle is serious venture that depends upon all the human senses to do so effectively and safely. We need to improve our driving skills by knowing the dangerous habits that are practiced by drivers that lead to accidents and fatalities. NHTSA estimates that the annual economic cost to society of speeding-related crashes is $40.4 billion. In 2012, speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal crashes, and 10,219 lives were lost in speeding related crashes (National 1). As someone speeds or goes below the speed limit, this will increase the likelihood of fatal accidents. As drivers speed up and slow down during the course of driving, they are less likely to have an accident if all the vehicles are moving at the same speed. Driving a motor vehicle takes full concentration to what is happening all around you from twenty-five meters to two hundred meters.
