Since the early 1980s, the number of alcohol-related fatalities on American roads has been following a steady downward trend, due to large parts to effective public awareness and law enforcement campaigns. However, alcohol-impaired driving remains a serious problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), twenty-eight people die in the United States every day as the result of an accident involving an alcohol-impaired driver, equating to an average of one death every fifty-one seconds minutes or ten thousand fatalities per year (“Drunk Driving”). Driving is an everyday thing for millions of people all around the world, sadly it has also increasingly become a fatal issue because of people who drink and drive.
