Blackout is small incident of amnesia, which causes a block of information in the short-term to long-term memory storage. During a blackout people are able to have proper conversations and perform other activities. There are two types of memory deficiency: En bloc blackouts and Fragmentary blackouts. En bloc blackout is where the individual has no recollection to what has happened while being under the influence. The beginning is very clear (what happen before blacking out) but not the event that took place. After the event has taken place that individual will fall asleep, and the first thing they will remember is waking up from their sleep. For this to happen, an individual would need to consume a lot of alcohol. Fragmentary blackout is where an individual remembers random incidences, while drinking. This can occur with just drinking socially. This more likely to occur than compared to en bloc …show more content…
First hypotheses: Alcohol conquers pyramidal cells in the CA1 region of the hippocampus, which is an important part of the cell for developing memories of events. Second hypotheses: Interruption of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus. Hippocampal cells signal other hippocampal cells, this signaling produces a large response. Alcohol prevents these cells signaling one another but locking the activation of NMDA receptor. This process impairs LTP. Third hypotheses: alcohol might stimuli hippocampal functioning which effect by impairing the messages.
Consuming alcohol can cause confusing, loss in control of the body motion, violent behavior, and can put an individual in a traumatizing situation such as car accidents. One of the biggest traumatic accidents is head injury. These injuries can lead to blood clot in brain, brain injury, coma, headaches, etc. People with alcohol related disorder might even suffer from dopaminergic dysfunction (self-control problem). Tremors, touchiness, anxiety, agitation, and seizures can be found in heavy drinkers who have suddenly stopped consuming alcohol. More often an individual will try to quit alcohol, the more sever the side effects
