My main goal is to discover how Alcatraz was run and what aspects about the island made it one of the most secure prisons in the world. How did Alcatraz come into existence, and why is Alcatraz on an island in the bay of San Francisco, instead of being located away from a major city, where if a prisoner escaped the island the prisoner would become hard to find within a massive city. Was the island use for anything else before it became a federal prison? In the great twenty nine years of running, housing the most notorious criminals on the planet, why did Alcatraz island prison shut down? What happened to all of the prisoners when Alcatraz shut down? Who was the last prisoner to be release or moved from Alcatraz island prison? What was life like on the island, for the guards and prisoners? While being home to very dangerous criminals, how were the guards of the prison trained, and what was the protocol if a prisoner tried to escape? How many guards were on guard at all times? Who were the most dangerous prisoners on the island and how long were they there? How deep is the water surrounding Alcatraz? Is the water shark infested around Alcatraz and were sharks ever fed by the guards of Alcatraz to keep sharks around? What did the citizens of the country think about the prison and its specific
