Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston faithfully did his duty to calm the threat of war locally and protect San Francisco until he resided his command (National). After returning to the south, Johnston accepted a commision in the confederate army. Johnston died at the Battle of Shiloh (National). Alcatraz soon took charge of well known depression era desperadoes as Alvin “Creepy” Karpis, George “Machine Gun” Kelly, and “Scarface” Al Capone (Boisson). Capone arrived on the Rock in 1939 from Leavenworth, were he was serving time for tax evasion (Boisson). Capone tailed in the laundry room as prisoner AZ eighty-five, but his bigshot swagger ruled the more common streets (Boisson). Some celebrities are well known for being unacceptable. These people are famously bad. They have robbed, killed and stepped on everyone in their way. Any dishonorable things you can think, they probably done it. These well known people have done appalling things which landed them at The Rock. Even at The Rock they still misbehaved themselves. Some tried escaping as others tried to kill each other.
Capon was born in New York where he attended school; Until he quit after the sixth grade. Ever since then at a young age he was involved in well known street gangs (“Al Capone” 5). In late 1931 Capone was arrested and later that year convicted. He was sentenced to eleven years in prison and charged with tax evasion. In 1946 doctors examined Capone and discovered he had the mentality of a twelve-year-old (“Al Capone” 8).
George “Machine Gun” Kelly was born in 1897 in Tennessee. He went to public schools and later became a salesman. In 1927 he married Kathryn Thorne. Kathryn motivated Kelly to become involved in crimes. She even bought him a machine gun which gave him the nickname “Machine Gun”. He became a bootlegger ( “Al Capone” 12). Eventually they were caught but they surrendered to FBI agents.They were place in Oklahoma City and had a trail. George and Kathryn were sentenced to life in prison in October 1933 (“Al Capone”
