Albrecht Durer was a creative genius that had skillfulness which was nearly unparalleled in his time, and that still holds true some five hundred years later. While the image produced by Albrecht Durer, St. Eustace is small in size it is huge in skill. The image has such realistic texture and detail that it is almost hard to look away from the skill exhibited and needed to create such a complicated and beautiful image. Not only do I want to talk about Durer himself, I want to talk about what the image consists of and how he would have gone about making it. Through years of training, imaginative ideas, and a passion for the arts Durer was able to create many unique and beautiful images that are still greatly appreciated today.

It is a subtractive method in which you would draw out your image and carve the wood away at different depths to create form and lines in which to print from. After having the block carved one covers the block in ink and wipes away the excess before printing onto paper prepared to receive the transfer before drying and becoming ready for distribution.
