The Persecution of People with Albinism
The body is a complex mechanism. Some small genetic variations allow for such beautiful and unique characteristics. We are all so different; yet some small differences can really make you stand out from the crowd. Albinism is a congenital defect that may occur from a multitude of mutations. It causes difficulties for those affected by the condition to live a life like everyone else. From small daily obstacles to a vast array of persecutions, living with such a condition is proving to be impossible for some. The following will elucidate the causes of albinism, the persecutions albinos are facing, and what is being done to help.

‘Under the Same Sun’ is another organization that has helped finance a lab at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center. For the first time, they started manufacturing sunscreen in an attempt to help albinos ward off skin cancer. “The medical center also does regular outreach to albinos in the region, focusing on cancer prevention by promoting long sleeves, sunscreen, and early detection of potentially cancerous skin lesions.” The program has helped greatly in lower the number of albino cancer patients in the
