After Einstein had finished the Special Theory of Relativity he realized that gravity was not a force as Newton initially proposed but was caused by the geometry of space and time around a gravitating mass (like earth). Einstein believed that spacetime was like a blanket and the objects were like marbles.
The marbles are the planets and space is like an outstretched blanket. When the marblesare placed on the blanket and the marbles, onto certain places on the blanket. This is how Einstein projects his theory of relativity and gravitation. His theory is saying that planets orbit around the sun because of its great mass which also implied the planets moons orbit the planets because of their great mass. His theory revolutionized the way we look and think about space.

His equations also were used to prove that gravity can bend light we see this theory in action in black holes their massive gravitational pull. This pull is so strong that light can't even escape it. Fields of gravity can also distort light and absorb its rays
The theory of relativity also demonstrates that light was the same in the vacuum of space as it was on earth excluding black holes. Going back to the theory of gravitation Albert Einstein also believed that massive objects distort space time and also bend light to a certain degree. He believed this because a large object such as a planet has enough mass to make its own gravity and pull object in close enough to orbit or collide with the planet
Gravitational lensing is a method based off einstein's theory of relativity. It uses a large object with massive amounts of gravity to see behind it for instance a black hole has an enormous amount of gravity. Most of the time scientists use this method to see other planets stars etc. Scientist were able to view a supernova more than 4 times because a galaxy had magnified it to the point where scientists can easily view
