Kayla read 53 words correctly out of 76 total words, scoring 69.7%. This percentage places Kayla in the frustration reading level for word accuracy, which is reading 68 words or less correctly and scoring at or below 90%. Kayla substituted words as the majority of her mistakes, she never repeated, reversed, or appealed. Some examples of her substitutions are: sometimes for “Sara”, becomes for “asked”, and explaining for “string”, there were about 20 substitutions in all. At the beginning of the novel, Antonia is seen as a naïve girl who was the interpreter of her family. Even though, she only knew enough English words to help her family, she seemed very smart. As, the novel continues she takes English lessons with Jim Burden, and her ability to fast learn the English language makes her seem even smarter. However, her ability doesn’t stop to learn a different language from her native language, but can work the land and doesn’t fear the hard labor that her parent’s farm required. For my fifth observation of Jaelee, I was observing to see if she can use three-to-four word sentences to express herself. When I got to Jaelee’s classroom, the children were getting ready for snack time. Jaelee came over and gave me a big hug. She was much more interested in playing with the teacher than with the students. Raising my virtual child was a very interesting experience for me. I had a little girl and I named her Anna. She was early and had a low birthweight but other than that she was completely healthy. Cognitive development is the construction of thought processes, including remembering, problem solving, and decision-making, from childhood through adolescence to adulthood (healthofchildren). From the age of 2 to 11 children are constantly discovering new things about themselves and their body, whether it be walking, talking or experiencing puberty. The cognitive difference between these two are tremendous and differ at each stage of growth. For example, a two-year-old is just learning how to walk and run properly while an eleven-year-old has been walking for years and is in middle school getting ready to enter adolescence. In the story “Mother Tongue”, Amy Tan tries to distinguish the difference between two different cultures as a child. She is raised by her mother who speaks “broken” English, and the outside world where perfect English is spoken. Amy had a hard time as a child because of the different Englishes that were spoken. Tan as an adult continues to find the difference between the languages that are spoken, even though she knows that the one spoken by her mother will never improve. Tan’s attitude towards mother tongue starts as being embarrassed and ashamed, because Mother Tongue was the only type of English that her mother could speak.…
Observation #2 Teacher and Child Interaction This observation is focused on the teacher/child interaction of the preschool program at Pasadena City College Child Development Center. There were twenty-five children in the room, aged from two and half to four years old, and four teachers were there on the day I observed. There were four to five children assigned to each teacher.…
