My inspiration is Alan Turing. I am currently reading the cleverly named 'Alan Turing the Enigma' by Andrew Hodges and marvel at his contributions to the world, which are particularly impressive given the hardships he underwent. His contributions to probability, in the form of central limit theorem and his breakthrough in computer science such as the Turing machine are astonishing. I wish to one day contribute even a fraction of what he did to society.
As a result of this reading, I have also become more interested in cryptography due to its basis in logical thought processes and its increasing importance in society. From contributing to the victory by the Allies in World War Two, through cracking the Enigma machine, to keeping people's data secure and defending against cyber-attacks in the 21st century. As Davis and Hersh argued in 'The mathematical Experience' the next world war will be the …show more content…
This allows me to solve problems in many other areas such as Physics. I have attended a university lecture on solar panels at the University of Leeds; this showed me the diversity of mathematics and demonstrated how a seemingly abstract concept has such practical applications in solving modern day problems. The area of Mathematics which I am most fond of however is Pure Mathematics due to its focus on problem solving and thought processes, like proof by
