Alan Kurdi came from Kobani, the city in northern Syria, that was evacuated due to the Kurdish forces war against the Islamic State extremists. On September 2nd Alan, his brother Ghalib and their mother were among a dozen Syrian refugees, including 5 children who drowned. Abdullah Kurdi was among the few people who survived.
