The movie was released on November 11, 1992. November 11, 1992 was not a significant day in history around the world. However, it was nine years before the events of 9/11. Aladdin takes place in the sandy country of Iraq. Iraq, at the time period of the 1990’s, has just entered the US-Iraq War. Coincidentally, Aladdin was released two years after the start of the war. The supposed kids movie is to teach the lessons of “personal integrity and honesty”. There is no problem that the movie is trying to entertain young children and teach them these lessons. However, the writers of the movie were also sneakily showing its audience subtle clips of propaganda of how they believed the Middle East was in reality. In the first twenty minutes of the movie, we can see that the movie, even though it is a children’s movie, is based on stereotypes. It reveals the sub par knowledge we have about a culture that is actually the second most popular religion in the world with about 1.3 billion followers.
