The University of Alabama was founded on April 12, 1831, by the Alabama Legislature. On December 18, 1820, the seminary was established officially and named "The University of the State of Alabama." On April 18, inaugural ceremonies held and the University opened. By May 28, 52 students had enrolled. The campus consisted of seven buildings: two faculty houses, two dormitories, the laboratory, the hotel (now Gorgas House), and the Rotunda. The first president for the University of Alabama was Robert Witt, but the President’s Mansion wasn’t finished until 1841, and its first occupant was Basil Manly. The University of Alabama does offer an honors program where exceptional students can thrive. Students can achieve world-class education based of four pillars: innovative scholarships, advanced research, cultural interaction and civic engagement. The University of Alabama does offer multiple degrees, and double majors. The school does let you study abroad. The school also offers an internship program. The Internship Program is an on and off-campus training program designed so that interns can use the skills acquired as English majors at business or government …show more content…
It has a museum around it named Alabama Museum of Natural History. The Alabama Museum of Natural History is the state's natural history museum, located in Smith Hall at the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. The oldest museum in the state, it was founded in 1831. The exhibits depict the natural diversity of Alabama from the Age of Dinosaurs, the Coal Age, and the Ice Age.
