Al Mccarthy: A Short Story

Al McCarthy walked on the sidewalk of a San Diego. He went up to a door, opened it, and walked up a series of crumbling steps, that needed to be repaired. He approached another door, put his key into it, opening it, and revealing a small studio apartment. “The bank called again,” said Al’s wife, Zoe, almost the instant she saw him walk in the door. “They said that if we keep spending at the rate we are now, we will be broke in six months.” “Oh No. What are we going to do?” “We could try to spend a lot less, or you could try to get a different job. These days, minimum wage isn’t enough to support a family.” “I’ll think of something,” Al told Zoe as he went to sleep, “I promise”. As the sun rose, Al was ecstatic with an idea. “This might …show more content…
Considering this, he decided to try to rob the safety deposit boxes instead. His lock picking skills from his youth would come in handy for this, as the locks on the boxes were not even close to as elaborate as the main vault in the bank. First, Al would walk into the bank and ask to open his safety deposit box. Then, when he was in the room with all of them, he would ask for some privacy. When the bank workers go away he would go into his bag and take out some plaster. Al would then throw the plaster onto the security cameras, so the bank workers who monitor the security cameras cannot record his face, or see what he was doing. Next, Al would take his lock picking set out of his backpack, and start to open boxes as fast as possible. He would only take valuables, and then would close the opened safety-deposit boxes. Al would put the items, and his lock picking set in his backpack, retrieve his phone, and leave the room. At this point, the security would probably figure out what he was really trying to achieve, so he would need to make a spy-like escape. He would make his way through the air vents of the bank, which lead to the roof. He would then need to jump down into a dumpster, pre-filled with pillows, where Zoe would be waiting with the getaway

“The Crucible” by Arthur Miller is a play about The Salem Witch Trial;he is comparing it to the McCarthyism. He wrote this play to show that McCarthyism was just as crazy as the Salem Witch Trials. Abigail Williams is the antagonist of the entire play, even though she is not the equivalent of McCarthy. She does have a real-life counterpart who is actually much younger, but just as responsible for the hysteria that took place in Salem.…

“Innocent until proven guilty”, a principle set forth by the founder fathers is fundamental for the protection of human and civil rights. However, “guilty until proven innocent” seemed to be the new slogan the judicial branch abided by during a dark time known as the red scare. The red scare can best be defined as a widespread series of actions by individuals and organizations whose, “intentions were to frighten Americans with false and highly exaggerated charges of Communist subversion for the purpose of political, economic, and psychological profit (Carleton 14).” The apparent threat of communism was one that erupted throughout the nation beginning during the cold war and lasted well into the 1960s. The face of this movement was Joseph McCarthy, a Republican Wisconsin senator, who’s movement and political tactics are now commonly referred to as a McCarthyism.…

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a novel that diverges from the customary standards regarding format of how a novel is written. McCarthy tends to ignore the usage of quotations and apostrophes and also writes in a splintered fashion especially in the beginning of the book adding the tone of minimalistic times. He never reveals the name of the characters and only refers to them as The Boy and The Man as it is written in third person omniscient though it often seems as if the novel was written in first person which adds to the idiosyncrasy of the novel. On the contrary The Road is extremely detail oriented which immensely contributes to the overall theme and tone of the book in addition to putting the reader in the characters shoes. The Road is a fiction piece about a post apocalyptic desolated world centered around a boy and a man trying to fight through constant fear and inhumane…
