The Big Fella Scarface
Al capone had one of the biggest impacts in the world to this day. He may have been one of the worst men in history, but positive things came from his actions. This man was known for being one of the most infamous gangsters, and committing many crimes. He often said, “you can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone” (Capone 1945). The words he said above shows that he was willing to do anything to get what he wanted. He repeatedly broke many laws and couldn’t get caught by the police, so the FBI was created.
Scarface himself was born in Brooklyn, 1899, to a poor immigrant family. He had seven siblings and grew up in a small tenement. Capone went to Brooklyn elementary school, he always did good in school until sixth grade when he failed and had to repeat the grade. He was involved with hockey around this time. One day he was being disrespectful to his teacher, so his teacher hit him. Capone didn’t like that and hit him back causing him to be beaten by his principle. He never returned to school after that day. Not long after, his family moved into a better neighborhood where he met his mobster guide, Johnny Torrio. Capone once said, “once you’re in the racket, you’re in it for life“ (Capone 1936). The term racket refers to a mob, and Capone became a mobster early in his life. He

Because alcohol was illegal, he rose more in his business. Many people were looking for alcohol, and he was able to fulfill their needs. Al said, “The country wanted booze, and i organized it. Why should I be called the public enemy” (Capone 1940). This quote shows that he shaped the era by giving people what they wanted, whether or not it was in a good or bad way.
