The religious cultural belief system and their momumental constructions found at aksum. Aksum is a representation of powerful kingdom in northern Ethiopia during the early Christian era. The peoples of Aksum were the product of a linguistic and cultural mixing of African Kushitic speakers with Semitic speakers from Yemenite southern Arabia. The massive ruins, dating from between the 1st and the 13th century A.D., include monolithic obelisks, giant stelae, royal tombs and the ruins of ancient castles. The site of aksum is also a resting place of the biblical Ark of the Covenant and the home of the legendary Queen of Sheba. The site of aksum consisted of the giant stela. The stela is tallest man made momument. The giant stela is carved monolith and it is also the only one remaining of seven giant stelae. The length of this momunment is 33 meters in height. The explanation for the stelae were for funerary momuments. The word stele means pillar. And the plural which is stealae means standing stone slab used in the ancient world primarily as a grave marker but also for dedication, commemoration, and demarcation. Stela was used as a tombstone. The dead were represented on the grave stelae as they were in life, the men as warriors or athletes, the women surrounded by their children.There are a few stelae that do depict sorrow or even death are moving and attest to the Greek sculptors’ skill at representing human emotion. From the Akkadian period there is a large stela immortalizing the king Naram-Sin and his victorious army. Naram-Sin towers over everyone else.
