The word Akasha is a Sanskrit word that has been used in modern Pagan/Wiccan practices as well as other practices was adopted in western occultism and spiritualism in the late 19th century. It is defined as the "other" of the "two worlds", the world where the witch walks through, being compared to outer space, inner space, life force and the un-manifest. In Indian cosmology Akasha is a term for "aether" meaning "upper sky" or "space" even "infinite space". To the Hinduism and Buddhism beliefs Akasha is the base of all things in the material world which we live. Without the existence of space, nothing else could be because there has to be something that will act as a base.

I was under a misunderstanding of the word by the western religious philosophy as they used the word Akasha as an adjective through the use of "the book of life". It contains all knowledge and history of all world events, and personal experiences of all thoughts and actions which has taken place, are taking place, and will take place on Earth. These are imprinted on the astral plane and accessed only with the experienced magician who are familiar with the ablility to tap into the unconciousness.

Akasha is important to know as its qualities are expressed through art, music, writing, religion, healing, magic, and ritual work. It is associated with the crown chakra, The World in tarot cards, and contains reflection of the vibes of light and dark. I found it important to unite all things as well as the connection to the otherworld. By opening up beyond thought and emotion I feel it will benefit any magical workings and connections to my practice. I found researching this word to be very educational and it has taught me that the word Akasha is a word that I will be using more often and being separate from what my beliefs were before I began this essay.

So out of all this information, to sum it up, I have achieved a good understanding of Akasha, or as I use Spirit. Throughout history and to this day the meaning has its roots in so many diffrent paths and religions not only in Pagan/Wiccan

A return to the beginning affords an opportunity to change what has gone wrong and thus try and regain orientation and meaning trough naturalistic processes (sacred) oppose to an objective supernatural reality (profane). In the book The Sacred and the Profane written by Mircea Eliade, the author notes that the sacred space is always considered the “really” real part of the universe, while non-sacred space is ambiguous and without structure (20). And therefore, the sacred is the solid, fixed point from which all else is oriented, while the non-sacred is a formless expanse without essence. And profane space is characterized by chaos and homogeneity and relativity (22) while sacred space is ordered and distinct and moral.…

By using the term akasha, one can understand the background and history of the term such as its original meaning in Hinduism. Also in using the formal term for the element, one can find a great deal more accurate information on the element than if one were to simply be researching 'spirit'. Common misconceptions of the term akasha is that it equates to the human spirit or personal energy, when it is neither of these things. As stated above, it is raw and unformed energy, it is the element that all other elements descend from. The term akasha should not be confused with Akashic Records, a collection of mystical knowledge that is found in the aether (a non-physical plane of existence), or with the character from the Ann Rice novel.…

It does not seem right to think that the dog I walk, feed, and potty trained could be one of my ancient relatives. In our Christian household I was raised on teachings that stated the opposite because that was simply what the Bible said. I was taught that when I face death, my body remains mortal and decomposes here on earth, and my soul would continue on to either an eternity of torture, or in paradise if I have proven my trust in our savior, God. This doctrine would be considered exclusivism or judegementalism.…
