It's what helps manifest the work I do in the wold around me. So, essentially, Akasha is everything that surrounds me. In the past I had no knowledge of this term; however, it has always been a tangible element for me. As I called spirit to any circle I was a part of, I immediately felt its energy physically move through my body. I hope that as I learn more I can form a better understanding of this concept so that I can have a stronger bond with Akasha in my life. Since Akasha is used in most Pagan practice it is easy to see why it would be important for us to know this term. Magic is taking thoughts, wishes, and intentions; and making them come to fruition in the physical world. Magic needs Akasha to carry our intentions to the universe. It's energy creates a bridge between us and the beings we choose to work with in the magical world. Some might even agree that Akasha helps us communicate with our deities. This could be due to the fact that Akasha is not only a term used in a Pagan setting, but in a pop culture setting as well. Many people know Akasha as the vampire queen antagonist from Anne Rice's novel, Queen of the Damned. This was adapted into a film in 2002 starring Stuart Townsend as the vampire Lestat and Aaliyah Haughton as Queen Akasha. I had seen this movie years ago, and I more than likely subconsciously remembered the name. This fictional creature is bloodthirsty and manipulative. Upon her awaking from a slumber brought on by draining their homeland of the blood of mortals, Queen Akasha drains her king's blood. She then proceeds to go after Lestat as her new king. While this use of the term Akasha does relate to a supernatural definition; it is not the surrounding force of magic, but instead it lends itself as the personification of an evil queen. In conclusion, although pop culture recognizes Akasha as Queen Akasha from “Queen of the Damned,” in Pagan practices it is the basis of all of our magic that we hold dear. It is surrounding us even when it is not being used, and without it there would be no way for Pagans to connect to magic. The idea of Akasha is known worldwide, most of the time being called Spirit.
