Advantage 1. There is no difference in security when using a private operated system. The TSA requires all private screeners to meet the same requirements as the federal screeners (TSA, n.d.). The same requirements also apply to checking passengers and baggage. However a private company benefits from better performance than required to establish a good reputation for future business and, if set, bonuses.
Advantage 2. A privately owned contractor system reduces overall costs. Especially in the staff costs great savings can be made, because private screeners are up to 65% more efficient than federal screeners (Weaver, 2011). For instance a reduction of more than $38.6 million can be made at LAX airport when utilizing private companies. This also reduces taxpayer’s costs.
Advantage 3. Private companies need to make money. This means a certain drive to be as efficient and effective as possible. Thorough research would be done before new projects enter their test phase.
