A common struggle every student faces at Baylor University is the slow, outdated AirBear network. Whether it be the inability to print a document or simply just accessing the internet, AirBear is extremely unreliable. While an ultimate fix to the problem seems unclear, the solution is actually quite simple: upgrade the network. For a total cost of $999, Baylor can implement gigabit internet routers at key locations across campus, providing students with faster speeds and a higher capacity to handle more users. The general low cost associated with this implementation make it worthwhile for both students and staff using the AirBear network, allowing the facilitation of higher test scores and increased GPAs. Overall, the addition of a faster AirBear network through the installation of gigabit internet routers around campus will help increase student performance and their overall satisfaction at Baylor. …show more content…
One argument is that implementing such a network would be time-consuming and cost a lot of money. In response to this case, the cost would be $999 with the implementation of NetGear gigabit internet routers. The time it would take to switch from the old to new routers would be seconds - as the new routers accept the same type of incoming physical connection as the older ones. Another argument is that faster speeds cannot be guaranteed with the addition of newer routers. The overwhelming evidence points to the contrary. Nathan Atkinson, a Senior Systems Analyst of Baylor University’s IT Services, states in a self-conducted interview that an industry-standard internet router can easily “boost everyone’s speeds by 50 percent”, adding that the implementation is “well worth the price tag” (Wolfe 1).
