Thousand of Portuguese die every year, victims of air pollution. The warning comes from a study by the European Commission, which estimates that more than 300,000 the number of
Europeans die prematurely each year due to poor quality of the air they breathe. Portugal occupies the 13th position in the ranking of EU (European union ) countries where the situation is more
worrying. Also, the UN health agency said in the report that air pollution is now the greatest
environmental risk to health, causing deaths from cardiovascular disease (60% of cases ) , lung
cancer and chronic respiratory obstruction. In this paper I will discuss the air pollution in Portugal.
First I will discuss the cause of air pollution, second, the consequence, and in the last …show more content…
The World Health (WH) Organization estimates that one in eight deaths worldwide are caused
by exposure to polluted air. Data confirm that poor air quality is a leader in environmental health
risks; heart disease, strokes and chronic lung obstruction are the main consequences of pollution. In
addition, there are several ways to classify and mention the consequences of air pollution. Some
scientists describe the consequences of air pollution follow accompanied by effects directly linked to
human health, animals and vegetables, and classify them into aesthetic , irritating and toxic( Devlin
RB, Ghio AJ, Kehel H, Sanders & Cascio W, 2003). During all these confection articles are formed
considerable amounts of useless waste that end up with time compromising the environment .
Furthermore, these manufacturing processes , it is not only consumed energy itself of the human
body , particularly no consumption of energy from other sources. Consequently, Air pollutants can
affect the vegetation in two ways: via direct and indirect channels. The direct effects result from
destruction of tissues of the leaves of the plants caused by dry deposition of SO2, acid rain , or
