There are many things that contribute to the creation on the weather we see around us, but all of this would not be possible without air mass. Air mass is defined simply as a massive body of air that is for the most part similar in temperatures and characteristics. Air mass can encompass thousands of kilometers of the Earth’s surface and has been known to acquire the properties of the surface it is covering if it remains there too long. When air masses forms over large surfaces that have uniformed temperatures and humidity, it creates what meteorologist call source regions.
