In March 2008 I reached my goal and I enlisted into the Air Force as a medic. My first assignment was on the Labor and Delivery unit. The first delivery I assisted in was a shoulder dystocia. I watched in awe as the nurses knew what do as soon as the Doctor said “shoulder dystocia”; mark the monitor, lower the head of the bed and apply pressure. After this delivery, I knew what I wanted to do, and that is to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse. I knew that if I wanted to get good grades I would not be able to work full time. When I was in high school, I did not receive good grades and I even dropped out, but this was due to a lack of motivation. After all the adversities I have experienced I now know what I want out of life and how to achieve it. Since attending Sacramento City College I have maintained a 3.5 GPA in all my classes. However, my application to nursing school in California was delayed to Fall 2018 due to being out of cycle and the long waitlists, so I looked into other colleges.
