Air Creebec was founded in June 1982 and the started its operations on July 1, 1982 with a strong desire to develop a carrier that will meet the needs of the northern communities.
At that time, the Cree owned 51% of the company and Austin Airways own the remaining 49%. In 1988, the Cree purchased all the airline assets in the largest transaction ever conducted by First Nations Peoples in Canada, making Air Creebec wholly owned by the Cree.
The company increased from 30 employees in 1986 to over 350 in 2015, of which 30% are First Nations. Occupying key leadership positions such as pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, managers and other various services.
