Ainsley Epperson's Vocabulary

Improved Essays
The silly quirks of Ainsley Epperson are plentiful in number and just as embarrassing as farting in a silent room. I have a loud obnoxious laugh that can be heard from all over, I snort when I laugh, I say “Oh my Stars!” when I’m surprised and other things, I have a larger vocabulary that earns me weird looks, and last of all I tap dance when I’m nervous. The loud obnoxious laugh comes from my mother, as you probably know. Sometimes I feel like my laugh can be heard from all over the world. When she and I find an idea or a joke funny, in the grocery no less, you can hear us all over the store or whatever building we are in. My brothers and dad are both embarrassed by it, but it’s part of the mother-daughter quirks, and I believe they’ve become use to it. I also snort when I laugh, but that’s a quirk all of my own. I don’t know why it happens, but it does and I’ve come to love it. This quirk …show more content…
For example, when someone asks how I’m doing I’ll say: “Oh swell” or “Quite good”. Some people find this endearing, and others find it, well, as I’ve said about other silly quirks, weird. These are some weird colloquialisms that are typical to hear when you spend a lot of time around me. Finally, we get to the weirdest quirk of all: (drumroll please….) I tap dance when I’m nervous. Normally before a presentation of some sort, but in general it happens when I’m anxious. I most famously did this my eighth grade year before the presentation of some country project we did. That earned me plenty of laughs. I think I tap dance when I’m nervous because it’s something I very comfortable with. Most times I don’t even realize I’m tap dancing until the entire class is staring at me, and then embarrassment sets in. Even though I am sometimes embarrassed by these “quirks, they make up who I am and I couldn’t be more thankful for them. They make me an individual in a society that wants you to blend in. They make me who I

In Vocabulary Instruction Goes “Old School”, Suzanne Kail shares her experiences and trials as she is forced by her school’s English department to have all of her students “learn and memorize Latin or Greek roots and their definitions as a technique to enhance vocabulary skills” (Kail, 63). I will first address Kail’s initial reluctance to teach the Latin roots to her students, followed by the experiences that changed her feelings about the activity. I will then apply content from our unit on cognitive processes that enhance learning and explain why I think specific activities Kail used were effective in promoting meaningful learning. Finally, I will discuss what lessons I may take away from Kail’s and Heltin’s experiences of integrating lower…

This is happens when I’m not fully feeling what I’m doing. Feeling and understanding dance is what takes a dancer’s performance beyond simple execution of the movement. Feeling and understanding dance incorporates dynamics, musicality, and other internal and qualitative sensations that then translate into our external physical movement. Professor Comendador recently said that as dancers we each need to be a pop of color in our class; the way to do this is access our ability to play with dynamics and musicality. She suggested that many of us don’t access our full range of movement, which is what can cause our dancing to lack energy and seem bland.…

Conformity is an issue many teens face today. It takes over the average teenager's mind, so they choose to conform to the popular trends and fashion; therefore, they lose sight of what should mean the most, being themselves. How can we be our self without being called weird, stupid, freak and etc. When it comes to the topic of conformity most of us will readily agree that we want to be different instead of being who isn’t you. Many of us would give up our uniqueness, extraordinary distinctiveness, just to fit in a group.…

I would think that I was to cool to dance and when I danced it would be really awkwardly. Also every Sunday when I was suppose to practice I didn’t want to go I just wanted to hang out with my friends. This stage of me thinking I was to cool lasted about till 7th grade. I have always had a bad habit of violating social norms whether it be raising my hand to use the bathroom, making loud noises in public, being completely silent when near close friends, or holding the door open at in awkward distance, or in awkward positions. One of my favorite social norms to break has always been awkward eye contact, or when someone else is staring at me, male or female I wink. I enjoy making people feel uncomfortable and violating social norms is the easiest way to do this, it is also the only way to do this. I had to do some thinking of a social norm that I could go against that I already do not break that often, and when I think I tend to fidget with whatever is in my hand. When I started my “Act of Deviance” I was originally just fidgeting with a pen in sociology, and then Lydia Cook started and…
