Aimee: Why A Teacher Should Use When Teaching Students

Improved Essays
Aimee, you brought something to my attention that I did not even consider, when reading Chapter 4 and after completing the quizzes. I agree that depending on the age of the students, the grade level, and the stage in which students are at mentally, does in fact play a huge role in determining which emerging philosophy of teaching a teacher should use when teaching students. As you mentioned, as a Kindergarten teacher, it is most appropriate to use the Behaviorism philosophy of teaching. I totally agree because those students are just starting out in the education system and they will need more structure. At that stage, they are just learning the dos and donts in school.

Cognitivism, like you mentioned should be focused more on when teaching

I disagree with Watson’s quote “Dozen Infants”. I think it was a great place to start, but it’s only a part of the big picture. Although the environment can fuel success and failure, there is also free-will and numerous other factors that influence development. For example, your parents can want you to become something or someone, but if you don’t like that something or don’t want to be that someone, then you won’t! I just think that Watson’s belief was a bit narrow-minded.…

Courtney starts off by reflecting on the effects of the Common Core based on personal experience. Her child has attended a school that had the Common Core and switched to another school that did not have one. She stated in her writing that although the process of solving mathematical equations were long and tedious, she saw that those extra steps are there to build a deeper level of learning. From a teacher’s standpoint, Courtney feels that the Common Core places a lot of pressure for teachers to hit every goal or standard each time. Courtney also mentions the significant challenges that students face when upholding the Common Core standards, such as students from impoverished neighborhoods or students with disability.…

All teachers have a different philosophy of what education should be. This influences the way their classroom is set up and run which consequently influences the how the students learn. Personally I believe that classrooms should not just be run with the students in rows of desks with the teacher standing in the front of the room talking. I believe that classrooms should incorporate different teaching styles to try to incorporate as many different learning styles as possible so all students have a chance to excel.…

Every teacher has their own philosophy on teaching whether it’s recorded or not, their philosophy is reflected every day in the classroom (Arthur, 2012). By creating your own philosophy that focuses on your beliefs and values the opportunity to adjust and improve your teaching methods becomes achievable and easier because there is a clear vision on what you think is important. In order for early childhood educators to create a reasonable philosophy, knowledge about effective pedagogies and the responsibilities of a professional educator, is a must. It is also important to be aware and understand how young children learn and behave. Early childhood centres are the first schooling environment for young children.…

Feedback is an effective method to use which helps to aid children 's learning. This method is used frequently in the class I work with. For example, the teacher marks children 's homework, other worksheets the children did in class, which I then file in the children 's folders. The teacher then gives them feedback by writing comments on the sheets stating how good the child accomplish the task or whether the child needed to put more effort in completing the task, also the teacher wrote if the child needs improvement. For example, he would guide the child what he can do next time in order to improve his work.…

The lesson I taught was my first step into the world of teaching. I think I performed well for my first attempt however, there is a lot of room for improvement. My 10 minute lesson was not executed as effectively as I had originally planned. While my ‘4 students’ responded well to the task set, I feel a class of year 1 students could possibly find this task too challenging at their learning level as knowledge of special events comes with life experience.…

As we’ve studied the different types of educational philosophies in class, I’ve been able to see which category my beliefs fall into and where that puts me in the teaching world. Throughout my educational career, my family and teachers have shaped my philosophy into a combination of both romanticism and progressivism. As a teacher I want to be able to help a student strive for self-fulfillment while focusing on individual student’s learning processes. Based on my ideals, I want for my classroom to be a place where my students can go to learn in a way that suits their personality, and in a non-pressured environment. I want to be able to engage my students and challenge them to learn based on their interests.…

This philosophy focuses on traditional styles of teaching in which children sit in their desks and listen to the teacher. I feel like many elementary teachers (at least the ones I observed) were focused around this style of classroom because I believe it made the teacher feel more in control and it would be too chaotic. Some other thoughts I have about becoming a teacher is that I’m nervous I won’t know what to do. I fear not having enough knowledge to run a classroom full of students. I am very passionate about teaching and love working with children and seeing them grow in knowledge but teaching is not always going to be fun because there will be tough day but there will be good days.…

Each teacher has his or her own method of teaching. No one teacher teaches the same way as another. These methods are manifested in a teacher’s education philosophy, or “the principles that guide professional action. ”(Parkay, 2015, p.114) A teacher creates his or her philosophy by examining his/her beliefs in a variety of categories, like what a teacher’s role should be, what a student’s role should be, and what should be taught.…
