During the decade of the 80s there was a lot of things going on. Reagan was President, Neon was in, the simpson and long hair rock and roll bands were sweeping the nation. But not everything was good in the 80s. We were still in the cold war, there were many a tragedies, and cocaine and crack cocaine became very big. There was also this new disease that started to become an epidemic in the united states. It was an unknown disease that a lot of people thought was started by, and only could be transferred to the gays. They learned more about it through the decade and throughout the years, what it is, how to contain it. There still is no cure but the there has been many advances in a lot of areas. The disease is called AIDS (Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome) also known as HIV (Human Immuno Virus.) AIDS has been and still is scaring and confusing the world.
Ryan White has brought a lot of discoveries about AIDS. Ryan White was diagnosed with aids in 1984 at the age of 13, and died at the age of 18 in 1990. There was not a lot of things known about the disease at the time except for they thought it was a gay disease. When Ryan got the disease many people thought he was gay and deserved it said god did it to him. He got the disease from a blood transplant. This was how they learned you can transfer AIDS by blood.
