1. Aibileen try’s to counteract the negative effects of Elizabeth’s criticism and coldness to Mae Mobley by, attempting to focus more on baby girl (Mae Mobley) and herself. This helps Aibileen cancel out the negative effects of Elizabeth’s comments and judgment by not giving her the attention, and trying to ignore what she says.
2. Aibileen raises children that are not her own and she teaches the kid the values of respect and understanding themselves and others. Aibileen is able to see racial prejudice from the parents and the outside world. This is when the children absorb and begin to think coloured people are not as good as white people. Back then it seemed to be common for white people to see blacks as somehow contagious. Elizabeth is set her mind to building a separate bathroom for Aibileen because her friend Hilly would not use the same bathroom as a white person. In no way was the bathroom a meaningful gift for Aibileen. Elizbeth tells Aibileen this is a gift for her so of course she has to thank her, any black woman would. Aibileen thanks her boss for the gift even though they both know the truth behind this bathroom.
4. The idea of writing the help weighed so heavily down on Minny because she was scared that white people might find out. She was afraid that if white people found out what would happen to them, what would be the outcome of all this. This fear weighed heavily down on Minny making her skeptical to either take parent in the story or not.
5. Minny feels the satisfaction she does in preparing a BLT sandwich for Jonny Foote because now that the ice is broken between them and there’s no more hiding, she feels relieved that she doesn’t have to work in fear anymore, like she was doing so before. I think this is important to a black maids experience because they already have a fear of there boss because they are in control of so much, but if someone living in the house does not know of the maid that can cause a lot of problems. The vindictiveness of white woman for violations of racial lines differ from violence of white men because woman are more in charge of the help instead of the men. The women tell the help what to do and if they go against the rules they have the power to fire them. I think the women’s way of revenge is more verbal, and men are to be more physical.
8. Some of the black community considered prayer counterproductive because if you’re in just asking god to help you it’s not making a change. Sitting in a religious place and praying is not changing anything, all your troubles are not going to go away. Some black people in the community believe in order to make change they need to fight back.
9. Working for Ceila Fote showed Minny that there’re are white people out there that aren’t mean and crucial like some can be. Celila pays Minny double than what she was paid at her pervious job. Ceila doesn’t see a problem in sitting at the same table or sharing the same dishes as Minny. At first Minny see’s Ceilas friendliness as something stupid but throughout the novel they earn each other’s
