Ahmed's Inequality

Decent Essays
Hey Mathew,
There are great ideas that is presented within your discussion. I am quiet intrigued when you stated that Ahmed’s behaviour can set up as a bad example to other students. I do believe that it is unfair that Hugh is subjected to inequality in this scenario. There is obviously an issue with only acting in the best interest of Ahmed, which is the opposite of what the codes of ethics encourage (Code of Ethics, 2017). Although Di has implemented a policy that is quite frustrating and one-sided, it is not the best choice to completely ignore her to achieve equality. Di may not have done this out of her own personal beliefs, but through her own ethics. This can be understood through ethical principles such as autonomy and beneficence

In the New York Times article “Are College Lectures Unfair? “, Annie Murphy Paul argues that college lectures discriminate those who are female, from a minorities or low-income households or a first generation college student. Paul evaluates statistics that show that on average all students benefit from active learning courses, while white privileged men seem to do better in lectures. Her main argument for the active learning method is that all students no matter who or what their background is have the same right for education. While I agree with creating equality in the educational system, I strongly believe that by making every university teach the same way, it could led to an disadvantage to all those who do better in an alternative course.…

As a part of Ethics Week, I attended the presentation by Dr. Anne Zahradnik, “Cut the Cake.” Dr. Zahradnik discussed the concept of equality versus equity. Equity, as defined by The Glossary of Educational Reform, is the “wide variety of educational models, programs, and strategies that may be considered fair, but not necessarily equal,” whereas equality can be defined as equalness for everyone, no matter the circumstances. Dr. Zahradnik’s presentation emphasized these two concepts and had her audience discuss collectively which they felt was the best for society to implement, by using cake slices as an analogy. When one walked into the room, before the presentation began, they may have noticed a giant sheet cake in the corner of the room.…

Teachers are professionals just like doctors, psychologists, and lawyers; thus, just like other professionals, we must abide by a code of ethics and professional standards. According to the Florida Department of Educations (FLDOE), we as educators must value the worth and dignity of everyone and be devoted to excellence, while always seeking the truth and acquiring knowledge along with the careful nurturing of our democratic citizenship. It is important to understand that in order for these achievements to be successful we must accept the fact that there is freedom to teach and freedom to learn as well as equal opportunities for all. Additionally, the students and their learning development and potential should always remain our first priority.…

Analyzing the ethical case between Ms. Smith and Wesley helped me gain awareness of ethical dimensions and practices. When Ms. Smiths phone went missing she viewed Wesley as a disadvantaged citizen in an unjust society. The reading does not state that Wesley stole his teachers phone, but educational policies persuaded Ms. Smith to believe so. The dilemma arises when Ms. Smith has to determine whether to follow the zero-tolerance policy or report her phone missing to higher authority. Principles of the dilemma compete because of the values at stake, and Ms. Smith has to determine her line of action to prioritize her student over herself.…

I believe there were some ethical issues surounding the process that Jane Elliott used to conduct her classroom experience. She was creating emotional abuse and trauma to her students by making them feel inferior to the other students in the room and telling them they were not as smart and that they were not good at anything. She degraded, rejected, humiliated and isolated certain groups of children and you could see the emotional abuse written all over their faces when they were in the "discriminated" test group. Emotional abuse of a child can result in serious emotional or behavioral issues, such as depression, detachment or emotional bond to their fellow students or teacher.…
