Agonist Vs Muscaranic Receptors

Decent Essays
1. A nicotonic receptor is one of the types of acetylcholine-gated channel that is found in areas such as skeletal muscles, ending plates, and ganglia postsynaptic membrane. The muscaranic receptors is also another type oF acetylcholine receptor that is located in the smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. The muscaranic receptors effect is it excites the smooth muscle and gland. The similarities between these two receptors is that they both can be found in the brain, and also that they are both AcH receptors.

2. An agonists is a chemical that produces a response to come together or bind, while an antagonists does the complete opposite and blocks as a response. An example of a agonists are morphine and opium which activates parts of the brain

The different chemicals that were used in this experiment were Pilocarpine, Atropine Sulfate, Epinephrine, Digitals, Potassium, Sodium, and calcium ion concertation. Pilocarpine stimulates the effect of parasympathetic nerve stimulation by enhancing acetylcholine release. Atropine Sulfate is a drug that blocks the effect of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is liberated by the parasympathetic nerve endings. Cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle are both different in functionally and in fine structure. Epinephrine is the fight or flight neurotransmitter that is released to increase awareness.…

Albuterol is an adrenergic receptor agonist with pharmacological properties and therapeutic indications similar to terbutaline. The mechanism of the anti-asthmatic action of adrenergic receptor agonists is without a doubt linked to the direct relaxation of airway smooth muscle and the bronchodilator. Although human bronchial smooth muscle receives little or no sympathetic stoppage, it contains large numbers of adrenergic receptors. When the adrenergic receptors activate the adenylyl cyclase cyclic AMP pathway it causes reduction in smooth muscle tone. Adrenergic receptor agonist for example, albuterol and isoproterenol, also increase the conductance of large Ca2+-sensitive K+ channels in airway smooth muscle, which then causes the membrane…

Environmental Bridges and Nicotine Marissa L. Ciluffo University of North Alabama Abstract Nicotine is an addictive parasympathomimetic alkaloid that is found in products such as cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, and snuff. When someone consumes nicotine, either through smoking, inhaling, or chewing, specific neurotransmitter actions take place within the body and brain. Acetylcholine is replaced by nicotinic receptors, in the neurons, causing the membrane to become depolarized. This continuous action is what caused nicotine dependency.…

Patients with sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by intermittent episodes of hypoxia (CIH), are at an increased risk for cardiovascular problems. CIH leads to a long lasting augmentation of respiratory and sympathetic motor output after the cessation of CIH, a phenomena termed long-term facilitation (LTF). LTF is a serotonin dependent mechanism. Additionally, serotonergic neurons in the raphe nuclei receive dense projections from orexin (OX) neurons; thus OX may contribute to the development of LTF. Sleep apnea patients also exhibit increased arousals and micro-arousals; OX may play a role in this sleep fragmentation.…
