Aging Theory, Objectives, Goals and Timeline
Nurse Practitioners are nurses with advanced education in diagnosing, treating and managing acute and chronic illness. Transitioning from nursing to advanced practice can be challenging. One way to overcome this challenge is with a practice theory, goals and a timeline. The purpose of this paper is to describe the aging theory Calorie Restriction (CR) and its use as a practice guide. Additionally, it will provide goals and a timeline to ensure the required activities are met during the practicum experience.

One participant, began a 30% CR diet at sixteen years old, the equivalent of middle age in humans (Yamada et al., 2017). It is making healthy choices that reduce caloric intake by gradually replacing one food for another (Most et al., 2017). The benefit of CR theory is that even a small reduction in calories will benefit the patient (Most et al., 2017). A ten-pound loss can equate to a reduction in systolic blood pressure up to 5 mm Hg (Most et al., 2017). It not only reduces hypertension it lowers the risk of heart disease and regulates blood sugar (Most et al., 2017). It can be easily applied in practice. NP's already counsel patients on disease specific diets. Education will be the key, making it simple to understand and providing easy ways to incorporate it, gradually, into their lives. Calorie Restriction is an excellent foundation for any practice and can be used alone or in conjunction with other
