Aging in place is so important due to the fact that the house that these individuals have grown up in holds meaning to that individual. Older adults have a preference to stay in their house for as long as possible even when they start to become frail and experience illnesses. The place where they live is familiar to them and they have memories that were shared in various rooms and places around the house. A barrier that can make it difficult to age in place can include when an individual becomes dependent on another for assistance in their activities of daily living, especially when there are no relatives around 24/7 to assist.
