On average the aging population can survive on less than $2000 per month. This does vary by lifestyle and region, but since I'm considered lower middle class, this is a fair assumption in my area. As we age we can get by with less, as by now our home is paid for, we are no longer raising children and our lifestyle has changed. My parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all seem to have adapted to their lives as older adults with living on social security, or small retirement funds and they have the means to prepare themselves for what is yet to come. Life is what you make it and it doesn't have to be expensive. With Medicare and Medicaid in place it helps with most medical and prescription bills. With so many services in place, that are affordable, I think aging at home is a real possibility.

I live a simple lifestyle, but yet have the money to do what I want. My parents were quite frugal so I have that background which has helped me now to be a little more conservative.
