Nosedive is the first episode in the third season of Black Mirror. The story is set in a fiction world where one’s life is dictated by the rating they receives daily from the people around them. To be successful, one must have a good rating, preferably a four or above on a scale of five. Nosedive focused on Lacie, who is obsessed with the rating system. Lacie wanted to get a new luxurious house, but the rent was too expensive for her; however she could get a discount. But in order for her to get a discount, she must increase her 4.2 rating to 4.5. She wanted to boost her rating, so she accepted the offer to be her old’s friend maid of honor at the wedding, seeing this as a huge opportunity for her to increase the rating. Aggression behavior could be physical or nonphysical. Physical aggression is behaviors that involve causing physical harms. And nonphysical aggression is behaviors that do not involve causing physical harms. The Hostile aggression is a type of aggression that is stemmed from anger and it has the intention to cause physical harms. This type of aggression is often impulsive and unplanned. An example of hostile aggression would be when Lacie grabbed a knife and start threatening Naomi’s husband as he tried to approach her. This is aggression, because her behavior was directing at someone and she had the intention to cause harm to anyone who try to get any closer to her. And this is classified as hostile aggression, because her aggressive behavior was stemming from her anger; also, because her knife-grabbing behavior was impulsive and unplanned. She saw the knife on the table so she just grabbed it impulsively and it was unplanned, because she didn’t grab the knife when she first entered the wedding reception. Another type of aggression is relational aggression; this type of aggression is non-physical. The goal of relational aggression is to cause harm to someone by damaging their social status or relationship with others. An example of relational aggression would be when Lacie tried to tell everyone that Naomi slept with her ex- boyfriend. This is relational aggression, because Lacie tried to ruin …show more content…
In Nosedive, Lacie’s ultimate goal was to get the 4.5 rating, so she gets the discount for the house. In order for Lacie to achieve this ultimate goal, she must first achieve other mini goals, such as getting to the airport, board the flight, get to the wedding, and finally give a speech. Unfortunately, all of Lacie’s goals were blocked by obstacles. When Lacie got to the airport, she found out her flight was cancelled. She was not allowed to board another flight, because her rating was not 4.2. She got frustrated and lash out at the attendant and the as the result, her rating was deducted. Because of her low rating, she was forced to rent an old model car. The car ran out of battery half way and she could not recharge it, because she does not have an adapter. She ended up hitchhiking and her rating further deducted by strangers. Her rating dropped to 2.6, so she was disinvited to her friend’s wedding. Without the wedding and speech, she cannot get her rating to 4.5, meaning that she cannot get her dream house. All of these events cause her to become very frustrated and it caused her to lose her sanity and become aggressive. This Frustration-aggression theory perfectly explained Lacie’s aggressive

Overall, relational aggression was the act of violence that occurred more often. In both shows, there was a dominant character that portrayed a sense of authority over the other characters who wanted to make them feel inferior. For example, in How to Get Away with Murder, Annalise who is the professor that teaches criminal law made Wes (a student) look foolish in front of the entire class. All the six acts of relational aggression were realistic, which can demonstrate or introduce the idea that being in charge is the ideal position. This can cause many adolescents and children to practice bullying in their school environment or even in their own home.…

This indirect aggression includes criticizing a rival’s appearance, social exclusion and rumors. These kinds of behaviors are what people usually describe as “cattiness,” but Villaincourt argues that it’s a pretty good strategy for mating, too. Unlike physical fights, there’s a low chance of injury, and a few studies suggest that young women who use indirect aggression have sex at an earlier age and are more likely to be in a dating relationship than their peers, especially compared with the subjects of their aggression. Which proves that indirect aggression works, however there has not been many…

Phase 4 involves the meanings and symbolism behind these aggressions, one of these messages being that the victim “does not belong” and that they are not normal, compared to the dominant group (77). Other messages that the victim feels are behind the microaggressions are that they are cognitively inferior, are unable to be trusted, and that everyone in that marginalized group is all the same (79). The final stage is “consequences and impact” and involves the psychological effects these aggressions leave. Some of these effects include powerlessness in controlling and dealing with the microaggression, and invisibility and underappreciation of the victim’s value. Another effect the victim feels is a loss of pride because they are forced to comply, or be silenced from reaction, in order to avoid these microaggressions, or avoid being accused of “overreacting” if they do speak out against them (81).…

The other, biologically non-adaptive aggression, Fromm puts as "…destructiveness and cruelty, is not a defense against a threat; it is not phylogenetically programmed; it is characteristic only of man; it is biologically harmful because it is socially disruptive; its main manifestations killing and cruelty-are pleasureful without needing any other purpose…though not an instinct, (malignant aggression) is a human potential rooted in the very conditions of human existence”. So, one of these aggressions is with us no matter what, and the other comes about when exposed to the rest of humanity. This semester, as a way to relieve stress, I would come home and watch The Bachelor. This season the bachelor was an older man named Chris Soules who is from a small farming town. As is practiced on The Bachelor there is a large group of girls and over the weeks the bachelor slims the group down until he finds the one he wants to propose to and marry. Reality T.V tends to have a large amount of drama and seemed to be a perfect fit for observing social awareness and irrational aggression within a group. It can be observed that social awareness, the state of being aware of yourself and your opinions, has a correlational relationship with aggression, behavior that hurts someone in one way or another, due to people feeling uncomfortable with themselves…
