Ageism Research Paper

Ageism “reflects a deep-seated uneasiness on the part of the young and middle-aged for growing old.” I both agree and disagree with this description. In my opinion there is so much prejudice about all age groups; teenagers, young adults, middle-age, and elderly. Middle-age and elderly may look at teenagers and young adults as rebels and too young and foolish to know what they want. While teenagers and young adults may look at older people as incapable to do things, and rude. Ageism has a lot of aspects that everyone holds. I am younger, but I look at everyone in the same way. My mom, and my grandparents are amazing people. I do get uneasy sometimes thinking about growing older though, because I fall into the category of not knowing exactly what I want to do in this world. I have been a teenager, I am young, and I will grow old. Each person is different, and that is why I don't disagree or agree with this definition. It’s all about the perspective and point of view people look at this statement. It is uneasy, because I'm scared for the future and what I will become in life. Yet with the uneasiness, I am excited to grow old and see who I really am and what I can become. Ageism doesn't have only one definition, but this one can be a part of it. Everyone is scared in one way or another to grow old, not knowing whether they will be able to take care of themselves, have to quit their job, retire to an amazing place or be put in a home. There are so many factors that people look at with aging. When it comes to me, I look and focus in the present. I don't like to worry about where I will be in 10, 20, 50 years down the line. Plans change, people change, it is the now that will shape what our future looks like. If you spend your life worrying about being elderly then you wont enjoy your youth and the time you have right
