If they included positive stereotypes, the results would be different. This method can be operationally defined as a survey full of negative stereotypes given to older people. Ageism prejudice is also implicit. This attitude is where you are unknowingly prejudice about something. For example, the stereotype wearing glasses makes a person smarter. Even though someone may vocally deny this stereotype, but still associate glasses with smartness, is an implicit behavior. A way to assess implicit prejudice is through the Implicit Association Test. This method measures a person’s implicit response by taking the groups (age, gender, skin color) and the test takers association with these groups to stereotypes and how they evaluate them, whether good or bad (Project Implicit). Overall, this method is highly reliable because it takes the first instinct a person has with that stereotype. The operational definition would be a test that grades a person’s first reaction to a stimulant (pictures and words). However, there is one flaw in this method. The results are influenced by the participant’s dominant hand. Meaning, if a person is right-handed, they are more often than not compelled to click with their right hand over left.
