There were a couple major ship advancements. One was the creation of the caravan. The caravel was commonly used ship which were maneuverable and medium sized. Some of the uses of the caravan were as cargo ships, warships, patrol ships, and fishing boats. One main reason explorers commonly used these ships were there speed. Caravans were fast and able to control which helped explorers navigate with ease. The Galleon is another ship created during the Age of Exploration. Christopher Columbus, a well-known explorer, was funded by Queen Isabella. He brought her new lands to Spain and new trade. Many explorers did this to bring fame to themselves. Amerigo Vespucci was a map maker who sailed to Americas and other parts of the world to help him create better and more realistic maps as well as figure out new means of navigation. Having a wealthy country with much trade was highly looked upon by monarchs. The new land and trade were the main reasons explorers got funded by monarchs.
