The Age of Behavior is the period of time where behavior, identity, and allegiances are influenced by ideas and narratives. Previously, identity was determined by religion in the Middle Ages and ethnicity in the 19th century. However, during the Age of Behavior, people now base their identities and allegiances based on what they personally believe in and narratives that support those ideas. No longer are people loyal to or identify with a group solely because they share the same religion or live in the same country—sharing the same ideas and beliefs is now a huge influencing factor. Complacency refers to the lack of promotion of democratic culture by countries or societies that fit the mold of democracy. Political correctness is the fear that if a group were to publically promote their values and insist that they be universal around the world, no matter how relevant or relatable they are, they would be considered extremists. The presenting of democracy as a political choice in addition to military rule and theocracy, most common in societies that are mainly Muslim, leads to the blaming of political mistakes on democracy itself. If a democratic group is elected in one of those societies and fails while in power, democracy, instead of the people, will be blamed and the society will revert to another form of government. Lastly, the ideology of resistance means that it is easier to promote something, such as a democratic culture, if it goes against those in charge. The example Nawaz gave was that if the most influential country in the world was communist, it would be much easier to spread the ideology of democracy, since it would be a form of resistance to communism. But, since the United States, who is considered the world’s “superpower”, is democratic and spreading its ideals all while making mistakes, it’s easier to promote a culture which “promises” that it’s not like
