Age Gap Research Paper

I grew up in a home where I could identify as an only child and the youngest of five children. My father was previously married and had four boys when he met my mother. My parents married in December of 1992 and I was born the following year in June. While I was a child, I thought it was normal to have four older brothers. While that can be normal, it is not normal for the age gap to be 17 years and more. There were times when people would confuse my brothers for my dad and my dad for my grandfather. After a while, it became something to laugh about. My brothers eventually married and I became an aunt at the young age of three months. Now, I have eight nieces and one nephew. Some are very close in age to me and others are much younger than

The Literal Enactments of the Dual Concepts of ‘Creating an Area of Visibility’ and ‘Providing a Platform’ for the De-marginalization of Age Studies Kathleen Woodward’s “Introduction” in the book Figuring Age: Women, Bodies, Generations, is riveting text that deals with the subject of age studies (AS) in association with older women and their representation as well as self-representation of discourses on aging and their experiences with aging. Stephen Katz’s (2014) text “What Is Age Studies”, discusses the critical contributions being made to AS as “scattered and splintered distributions of academics, advocates, public intellectuals, and political leaders working across various organizations with different resources and mandates” (para. 3).…

The first article that I chose to pick, was an article titled, “Age Difference,” by Nick Martindale. It was published on October 1, 2015. The beginning of the article talks about in a work situation the companies or work places that have multiple different generations working under one roof need various approaches to keep their workers happy, and that they will each have different expectations based on their generation grew up. The article included in these approaches: health considerations, financial motivation, one approach for all generations, and personalized rewards. In the health considerations paragraph, Nick Martindale touches on how fifty-three percent of Millennials (people born between 1980s and mid 1990s) expect their employers…

My “aunt’ Penny and “uncle” Bud were closer aunt and uncle to me than anyone. My two “adopted” moms, Mici and Christina, didn’t affect me anywhere near as much as my mother, but they were there for me when I needed them and I did learn things from them. My “adopted” siblings Justin, Jacob, and Woody were as much (if not better) brothers as I imagine any blood brother could be. My other “adopted” brother, Shawn, is actually my step-cousin, but my mom and stepdad raised him so he was basically my brother as well.…

A relationship which has a common ground shared between two individuals leads to longer lasting relationships. There are many examples of couples around the world who have been in an age dissonant relationship yet chose to live happily with one another. Major age difference between couples in Hollywood are increasingly becoming common. Three specific challenges adolescents might face as they transition into adulthood is that of getting a job, going to college and starting a family. For most teens, getting a job (employment) is a way for them to make money, but “in the employment realm, skills training involves teaching youth basic job skills (e.g., word processing) for high demand jobs.” (Hadley, 2010, p.3) in which case not all adolescents have the skills for high demand jobs, but yet “education and career programs were more effective for younger youth than older youth (specifically, youth in their late teens than young adults).” (Hadley, 2010, p.5) giving them the advantage of gaining good employment.…

In the life course I’m located in the transitional adulthood stage. The text says that many young adults postpone their responsibilities by going to college. And that many live at home to live cheaply while building their career. It also says that we ease into responsibilities, I find all of this to be judgmental and partly wrong. Although this may be true for some people it’s not for all, now a days you have to go to college in order to survive on your own and pay the bills.…

After reviewing the EEOC website and reading of the textbook, I was not surprised at all about the information I read. The EEOC site list different types of discrimination that currently exist in today’s world. The topic I decided to discuss is age discrimination. During 1967, the federal law under the Age Discrimination Employment Act (ADEA) was enforced to protect employees’ ages 40 or older rights to work and in 1986 to protect mandatory retirement. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforcement under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, “the law makes it illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex.…

Love is blind. When a man and women develop feelings for one another, diverse factors like ethnicity, nationality, cultural background or even age gap would be looked over upon. However based on Clawford's essay, having a partner with huge age gap could arise some problems. She mentioned that it would affect the people's perception towards the couple and roused some gossips such as suspecting their relationship as a 'foul play'.
