Agatha Christie has created suspense with the use of foreshadowing in the characters dialogue. Mr. Blore was traveling on a train from Plymouth when he remembered Indian Island from when he was a boy, “Funny idea to go and build a house on it! Awful in bad weather!” (15). Agatha Christie uses this quote to foreshadow a storm, but the readers don't know when it will take place. All the readers can infer is that this storm will trap the guests on the island. In addition, General Macarthur was trying to fall asleep but couldn't stop thinking, he thought, “ Best of an Island is once you get there- you can't go any further… you've come to the end of things.” (78). This internal dialogue from General Macarthur speaks about the setting Indian Island.
