According to babynames.com, Agata is a Polish name meaning virtuous and good. I would like to think that this fits me very well, because I think of myself as being a very moral person. For example, a lot of people dislike their younger siblings, but my mom says that when I was little, I was like a mini mom to my brother. I would hold his hand and make sure he was okay. Even though we are much older now, I still help him with his homework, and I hate to see him upset or in distress. My friends also all know that they can count on me to help them in any way I can, whether it’s with their personal drama, or if they need a ride to Plymouth from

I am on the Salem Girls Swim and Dive team which means that I have to eat a lot to keep my energy up during the season. One of my favorite drinks after practice is a tall glass of chocolate milk. The cold drink cascades down my throat and is really relaxing after an intense practice, along with a bagel, and about five other food items of course. Even though I eat a lot during the season, sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach, and I end up eating way more than I need to which leads to a “hibernation” mode, or food coma. No matter how hard you look or how far you go, you will never find two people that are exactly the same. Everyone in this world has a different story to tell. That is why everyone should be proud of their heritage and where they came from. The poem "Depression Days" by Pat Mora, and the short story "Names/Nombres" by Julia Alvarez both clearly stated this. They teach us to be proud of our heritage and who we are.…

Health and nutrition, particularly my own, is something I have taken special interest in lately as I’ve come to realize I’m rapidly approaching the second half of my life and want it to be as good as, or even better than, the first half. If I were to be asked eight weeks ago if I was a healthy person, my answer would be a resounding, “Yes;” my regular physicals and blood work confirming my response. And while I still believe that to be true, what an eye opener the Diet Analysis project was, as far as understanding my actual nutritional intake in comparison to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) of nutrients recommended for optimal health and well-being. The following paragraphs not only detail the Diet Analysis PLUS program used for this project,…

Currently, as an immigrant in Canada, my whole life is being influenced differently by microsystem . The greetings of the elderlies which was compulsory for me doesn’t hold sway over here in Canada at all. It is difficult for children to greet their seniors let alone greet strangers. If at all some do (greet), they do it with an annoying reluctance, as they continue to use such language as I will term offensive, given it informal nature like, “hi” to greet. Aside from this, teachers, Doctors, Pastors are called by their first names over here in Canada.…

While it follows the basic structure of the tale as most often presented, it should be remembered that as an oral tradition and a result of a translation.…

Growing up was somewhat tough for me, I have three older brothers wich means that along with the fact that I am the youngest of four, I am also the only girl. This may not seem like much, but the truth is that it has affected my life more than most people would expect. My brothers were known for being a bit rebellious, they were the type of boys that no teacher likes to have in their class and that one doesn’t dream about having next door. When I first started school it wasn’t that hard because none of them were in school with me, they were already in a different one…

Whether we are Hispanics, African, or other ethnicities, our mother tongue is different than the English language. When pronouncing our name in English the accent of our name changes it is no longer our name, When English becomes our second language, our mother tongue stays with us because it is our language from culture. However, when English is our second language it is more likely to become less fluent than our first language. In Manuel Munoz essay, "Leave Your Name at the Border", Munoz mentioned ‘ 'Language is all about manipulation, or not listening to the rules ' ', Munoz means the language is pronounced differently than what it should actually be spoken. I can relate to Munoz in several ways like trying to fit in, people creating assumptions about foreign people, and how our name is pronounced.…
