Against Women In Combat Essay

Women can serve in the United States military, but have always been banned from combat. People believe it “unfit” for a woman to serve and die in combat for her country. Others believe women are frail and need constant attention from men. Although many Americans believe that women should not be involved in combat, the U.S. government should allow women to fight in warzones because women can serve just as well or better than men, women would be able to provide a morale boost to troops, provide critical thinking skills, and it promotes equality throughout our armed forces. Men have always served in the military and some people just want it to stay that way. Others believe women can serve just as well as men in combat and in some instances, even better. When considering women have never been in combat, one cannot assume women cannot outperform men. Most of the women are stationed at supply depots and medical installations which are in safe zones and nowhere near combat where the men are stationed. By allowing women in combat, the morale of the male soldiers is likely to rise and give a home like feel to troops stationed in combat zones. In the article, “Study Finds No Detriment To Morale”, New York Times reporter Dave Philipps writes, “A women’s advocacy group this week found that after months of testing mixed-gender combat units, troops reported morale equal to that of all-male groups and higher than noncombat integrated groups” (par. 1). Some people argue that a women’s body will be a distraction during combat, but a soldier fighting for his life will not probably not be fantasizing while bullets are flying around if the situation
